Rye's choir headed on a tour to Salzburg this summer, the home of Mozart and The Sound of Music.
Here are a couple of excerpts from a first-hand account of the trip by choir member, Darcy Herring-Johnson:
'We all gathered on a Saturday morning, tired but still very excited! After waving goodbye to our parents and Mrs Jones, we started our fun adventure of Music Madness! We started to watch The Sound of Music on the way to Austria just to refresh our memories and it was not long before we were all singing along. After getting through airport security and a good flight, we landed in Germany. Ahead we faced a long but extraordinarily beautiful bus ride into Austria. The scenery was amazing; the mountains were stunning… although the skies were grey. That did not dampen the mood of the Rye girls though!
The next day the first item on the agenda was a mass at Basilica St. Michael, Mondsee. We sat at the front, behind the altar. It was wonderful to see the traditional procession going on right in front of our eyes. After the service was over, we had a concert at the Basilica, sang some pieces together and had some marvellous solos and duets performed. The next day we were bubbling with excitement. For first thing was another tour, although this time about The Sound of Music. We saw many of the sights where that masterpiece was filmed and lots of it was familiar. We really enjoyed re-enacting parts of the movie in their actual locations, like Do Re Me. The tour lead us up to the hills, which were very much alive!'
There will be a fuller version of this article in our next School Magazine so watch out for that. Here are some photos from the trip to give a flavour of the fun.
