During the Easter break Rye's equestrian team have been competing and doing the school proud!
On Wednesday 12th April, the team made their way to Addington Manor Equestrian Centre in Buckinghamshire to compete in the Headington Schools Show Jumping Qualifier. They arrived at 10am and were just in time to watch Bel Wilson and her pony Milly Hugh do a lovely clear round in the 75cm to come joint first, qualifying individually for the championships on the 22nd April! They then warmed up as a team for the 80cm competition. Erin Forsyth (Y12) and her horse Ruairi were on first for the team and produced a lovely clear in a time of around 30 seconds and next up was Georgie Lewis and her pony Buxton Niamh. They had an unfortunate refusal and a few time faults to leave them on 12 faults but she rode very well! Ruby Illsley and Just Tobias II were third up for the team and produced another lovely clear, and last was Bel Wilson and Milly Hugh, who completed a very speedy round in a time of 25 seconds to put Rye's team into first place. This means the team have qualified for the National Schools Equestrian Association (NSEA) Oliver Bonas National Schools County Show Jumping Championships 2017 at Bury Farm! this is an amazing achievement, well done to everyone involved.
Also, the team would like to say a big thank you to the Rye Parents Committee and Mrs Smith for helping them raise enough money to buy a team kit which meant that everyone looked very smart. It must have been a lucky charm and hopefully bodes well for the Championships.
