In the pre-prep and prep years School age, every day is an adventure through which children can find joy in learning and the joy of living. This is central to our philosophy at Rye St Antony’s Prep School.

At Rye St Antony we firmly believe that the primary years are key to a young person’s future. They are a time for establishing lifelong patterns of learning and a passion for exploration and discovery.

Set in spacious lawns, hills and woodland, our Prep School provides the perfect backdrop for an adventure in learning. From the years of five to 11, our pupils discover the awe and wonder of learning in this beautiful central Oxford setting. Of course, they learn numeracy, literacy, science, the humanities, computing, music, drama, sport and languages, but there is so much more to education at Rye. Our children also have the space and freedom to run around and explore in a safe environment, opportunities to push the boundaries and challenge themselves and a chance to shine and be rewarded for achievement.

We are lucky to be situated on one site in the centre of Oxford – this means strong links are created within the close-knit school community through our peer mentoring system, friendship playtime buddies, house captain and school captain system. Our younger pupils also work with girls in Years 7-11 and in Sixth Form.

We recognise achievement and use a rigorous awards system which includes competitions, cups and trophies and challenges. Successes and achievements are broadcast far and wide throughout the school for all to see and recognise.

Children at Rye learn how to respect and care for others through initiatives both within school and externally. Douglas Bear, donated to us by Helen and Douglas House, is awarded each month to a pupil who has put our philosophy into practice. Working with charities is part and parcel of life at Rye, children learn about the work of a number of organisations through which we have links.

Importantly, parents are welcomed and encouraged to participate at all times – our door is always open. We encourage communication with our parents through the website’s Parent Portal, twice yearly meetings, reports, events and the grades system. Parents also enjoy attending musical showcases and termly Tea Concerts, not to mention our very popular school productions.

Competitions and quizzes from poetry to spelling create a buzz which children love and enjoy the thrill of competing against other schools.

We have excellent links with the local community and participate in Headington Arts Week, Young Oxford Art Competition and host two inter-school competitions, Off By Heart Poetry Competition and Spelling Masters. We also sing carols at St Andrews Residential Home and St Lukes Hospital.

Visit Rye any day of the week and you will see children busy with clubs and activities from dance, sport and cookery to philosophy, art and pottery. Or they may be learning survival skills in the woodland in Forest School, planting spring bulbs in Gardening Club or taking part in Cycle Training Courses.

Our child-centred approach combined with structured learning targets, a broad, balanced curriculum and high quality teaching to suit pupils’ individual needs provide the key ingredients for creating a happy, well-rounded individual ready for the challenges and opportunities of Senior School and beyond.

Come and see for yourself what makes Rye unique – we look forward to showing you around and you will receive a warm welcome at any time.
